Pollutant Protection

With the best intention to keep art und museums objects safe and away from any harmful influences, they are being stored away into showcases, cabinets and lockers. If the appropriate values of temperature, relative humidity and light also are provided, the best protection from deterioration processes seem to be given. But a threat, that tends to be forgotten, are airborne pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOC) that can accumulate within enclosures, react with the objects surface and lead to deterioration and corrosion. Corrosive airborne materials can be detected by corrosion loggers, such as AirCorr or OnGuard. To prevent corrosion, it is important, to carefully choose only materials that are free of emissions for being used in the immediate surroundings of the objects.

If that is not possible, for example if the source of the pollutants is the object itself, the second step would be to work with pollutant absorbers.

Ideal for the filtering of pollutants is activated carbon cloth due to its large surface. With the Marvelseal foil, emissions from construction wood can be isolated. Silver and other metals should be covered in Silvercloth, to keep them from tarnishing. We offer customized pouches, for example for silverware. For the active removal of pollutants from showcases, filtration systems can be installed. As a protection from dust and light, you will find Tyvek rolls and covers in our offerings. An easy method to detect acetic acid, for example in film rolls, is with Danchek acid detection test strips.
